Luleh va Machinsazi of Iran Company (L.M.I) officially became active on April 25th of 1959, as the first industrial unit working in foundry and cast-iron industry as well as production of cast-iron pipe and fittings in Iran. This was the time when the pipe manufacturing unit at Tappeh Sefid was opened and adjoined to the machine manufacturing unit, which had started 3 years earlier. The annual production capacity of the L.M.I was 4,000MT then, mostly allocated to low-size cast-iron pipes (80-400mm), cast in the length of 4 and 5.5 meters, by using the centrifugal method of manufacture.

In order to meet the new requirements of nation-wide water transition projects, the L.M.I took another big step forward and proportioned itself to the newly innovated technology of ductile cast iron industry by starting the line of ductile cast iron products in 1965, as the leader of new technology in Iran. Its present total bulk of production is 56,000 MT which gives it the highest rank among the other manufacturers of ductile cast-iron. According to the plan ventured by the Design and Development Department of the organization, this capacity will be increased to 100,000MT in near future.

The L.M.I is a compound of two factories, as said. One is a pipe-making plant (No 1) and the other one a machine manufacturing mill (No 2). A third plant (No 3) is now under construction which will be allocated to manufacturing of the large size pipes.

The pipe making factory located at Km. 10 of a south west road of Tehran is involved in making pipes of 100-1000mm in 5.5 M. length; fittings, butterfly valves up to the size of 1800mm, non return valves up to the size of 1000mm and boilers of central heating system in 3 models with capacity ranging from 30,000 to 600,000 kcal/h. Further products are cast-iron rolls and heavy cast parts up to 18MT. In close future, ground packages of heating system ranging from 30 to 40 kcal/h will be added to the list of present products.

The machine manufacturing mill is based in Kurdan, a region at a 50 Km. distance to the west of Tehran. The factory has two separate sections, the first a machine workshop and the second a workshop for pressing operations. The former is busy in machining and assembling valves for water supply purposes as well as machining of rolls. This workshop is also equipped for making some casting machineries. In the latter workshop press parts for the automotive industry of the country are produced with a working capacity over 30 million parts per year. The third plant will be devoted to production of big size pipe and fittings, ranging from DN 800 to DN1600.
